Recent files = Displays up to twenty files that you most recently opened. Recent Folders (aka: Recent Places) is a list of all folders that you have used or opened recently. If you like, you can pin the Recent folders folder to Quick access in File Explorer for easier access to the Recent folders folder.

Recent document option has been removed on Windows 10. Instead, on Windows 10 you have an option recent files. To access it, follow the steps: Press Windows Key + E. Under File Explorer, select Quick access. Now, you will find a section Recent files which will display all the recently viewed files/documents. Hope it helps.

I might go to file explorer, the folder i want to find recently accessed files in - and right click the highlighted area in pic below and click on more. Then click the new heading to arrange it the way i liked best.

I also opted to download the Windows installation files from the internet rather than using the ones already installed on my PC. After about six hours, during which my PC worked through the process, I opened File Explorer, and the"Recent files" menu appeared again. Alleluia! I regained my peace of mind and put my OCD to rest.

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 but the"Recent Folders" link doesn't show up in Quick Access. Here is a pic: Also, as you will notice, the Frequent Folders is missing from the left bar. I don't like Frequent Folders -- prefer Recent -- but am simply pointing this out.

These are your frequent folders and recent files. In Windows 10, File Explorer opens to Quick access by default which shows your Frequent folders and Recent files. Frequent folders = Displays up to ten folders that you frequently opened on the system. Recent files = Displays up to twenty files that you most recently opened.
